Contemporary ART : Peace Bearer by JACOBLEU

"Peace Bearer" by Ivorian Painter Jacobleu ; I stumbled upon this work during his last exhibition  in Abidjan back in December . This painting is so topical I thought it was worth sharing with you .

The Meaning :

This painting is about a soldier finding his true vocation . He is supposed to protect life , to bring peace and not the contrary . Here the soldier (who is supposed to be in motion most of the time) stands still , and a dove even dares laying on his helmet . His face looks blank while he stares at the horizon ; at first I wondered what he was looking at , but I finally thought he looks more like a guy having introspection . So what is he thinking about ? The horrors of war , screams , fear . This makes him remember he is not supposed to be killing people but to protect them , to protect life .
The halo around his helmet looks like a saint's ; it keeps the ammunitions away from him .

The rest of the painting is about Africa , its traditions and we can use them to solve crisis in Africa . For me , this painting is about hope that one day maybe our Africa will be at peace .

Jacobleu is an Ivorian Painter who also does photography and sculpture . He is an engaged artist whose art works are tools to vehicle relevant messages to his public.
